Smoking the Digestion Exercise
No one can deny the side effects of smoking, but still everyday thousands of new smokers join the Smoking Club. No one to my knowledge has so far justified why people start smoking and why world governments are not able to put any sort of ban on cultivation of tobacco like on other inductions Cocaine and Heroin etc. My objective of writing this article is not to draw the attention of the reader to the ill effects of smoking or how to get rid of it. Instead, to a very interesting finding which I had concluded with help of little research and a lot of common sense. My findings are why people start smoking and why they keep going and find it hard to quit.
Some time ago I saw an anti-smoking advertisement on TV which sums it all about why people start smoking especially the young ones, the advertisement starts with
Cigarette in my hand, I felt like man
advertisement ends with a message saying “after 10 years” with a man on hospital bed.
Cigarette in my hand, I was dead man
I found this advertisement quite true in why the majority of youth take up cigarettes in their hands and the motive behind the very expensive and youthful advertising campaigns run by cigarette manufacturers which draws young minds to feel like a real HE MAN by taking on smoking.
I myself am in my mid-thirties and do not smoke which I should say is all comes from family. My father used to smoke till when I was 16 and my elder sister who was 20, at that time asked my father if he could please smoke outside the house. This had a really pleasant effect on father, and he stopped smoking instantly.
My lots of friend's smoke and I could never comprehend anything positive about smoking but one thing that it takes you a bit closer to motor vehicles which also smokes. As a result, there might be some feeling like being “Twin CAMed OR Turbo Charged OR bit smoky or V8 power, all these will help if someone feels more involved himself with cars and things like that. Enough of the jokes let it come to serious matters.
Whenever I find somebody smoking, I try to ask him/her about the feeling or need which draws you to smoke. Most of young guys had no answer but a smile on their faces which tell it all about their feelings of feeling like a Man while holding a cigarette.
Very interestingly there are a good number of people who justified their smoking in a very shocking way. What they said was something like this: smoking helped them get rid of stomach GAS and helped digest food quickly. This reason was common even among old fellows who were using traditional smoking pipes (HUKA) whom I talked to. I found this motive behind smoking quite interesting and started investigating this.
Apparently, there was no good thing in the tobacco smoke, and even it does not come into contact with food which would have caused the food to digest more efficiently. My conclusion landed on the practice of smoking. Yes this was it, why these people were smoking. The process of inhaling the smoke and exhaling in a certain way causes the lungs to expand and contract in an unusual way which is not there in normal breathing ritual. The expanding contracting motion of lungs puts gentle pressure on stomach and intestines, causing stomach GAS to release and making feel good and at the same digestion process fast.
Further to my conclusion the smoking itself does not help to digest the food but it was the process of smoking. I verified this by taking a cigarette and starting smoking without igniting it. I did the same process for some days and each time I did this, I felt my food digestion period reduced, and as soon I did the process of fake smoking it caused my stomach GAS to release. In other words, the process of smoking simulates the process of aerobic exercise which has similar results on the digestive system.
So next time you see somebody smoking to do it without a match.
